Tour Details

Wisconsin is a land where faith, history, and natural beauty intertwine, creating a spiritual journey unlike any other in the American Midwest. From peaceful rural sanctuaries to grand urban basilicas, the state offers places where devotion meets architecture, and silence carries centuries of prayer.

At the heart of this spiritual landscape stands the The National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion — the only Church-approved Marian apparition site in the United States. Nestled among quiet fields and forests, the shrine radiates serenity. Pilgrims come seeking reflection, healing, and a deeper sense of connection, walking the peaceful grounds where faith and nature exist in harmony.

In the vibrant city of Milwaukee rises the magnificent Basilica of Saint Josaphat. Its grand dome dominates the skyline, a testament to the devotion and craftsmanship of Polish immigrants who built it. Inside, soaring columns, intricate stained glass, and sacred art create an atmosphere of awe — a reminder that faith can shape not only hearts but entire cityscapes.

Further south, perched atop the rolling hills near Hubertus, stands the breathtaking Holy Hill Basilica & National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians. Surrounded by forests and scenic trails, Holy Hill offers panoramic views that stretch across the Wisconsin countryside. The climb to its tower is both physical and symbolic — a journey upward toward reflection, clarity, and peace.

Traveling through Wisconsin in this way is more than sightseeing; it is a pilgrimage through landscapes shaped by devotion and resilience. Here, the quiet rustle of trees replaces the desert wind, and instead of neon lights, stained glass windows illuminate the soul. Each destination tells its own story — of faith, courage, community, and the enduring human search for meaning.

What to Expect

What to Expect in Wisconsin: Wisconsin is a place where faith, history, and natural beauty come together in quiet harmony. Unlike cities defined by bright lights and constant motion, this journey invites you into landscapes shaped by devotion, immigrant heritage, and the peaceful rhythm of the Midwest. Rolling hills, serene lakes, and historic churches create the setting for a pilgrimage that is both spiritual and deeply cultural.

A Journey Through Faith and Architecture: Our pilgrimage begins with a scenic drive through Illinois into Wisconsin, where sacred landmarks rise unexpectedly from city streets and forested hills.

In Milwaukee, we will visit the magnificent Basilica of Saint Josaphat — a masterpiece of Renaissance-inspired architecture modeled after St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Its soaring dome, intricate frescoes, and richly adorned interior reflect the deep faith and determination of Polish immigrants who built it. A guided tour will reveal not only artistic beauty but also powerful stories of community and sacrifice.

From the city, we travel to the peaceful hills of Hubertus, home to the breathtaking Holy Hill Basilica & National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians. Rising above forests and winding country roads, Holy Hill welcomes hundreds of thousands of pilgrims each year. The climb to its tower offers sweeping views of the Wisconsin countryside — a moment to pause, reflect, and take in both natural beauty and spiritual stillness.

Spiritual Reflection and Marian Devotion: On the second day, we journey to the heart of Wisconsin’s spiritual heritage: the The National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion (formerly known as the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help). This sacred site marks the only approved Marian apparition in the United States, where the Blessed Mother appeared to Adele Brise in 1859.

Here, the atmosphere is quiet and contemplative. Surrounded by open fields and simple beauty, pilgrims gather for prayer, reflection, and a private Holy Mass at the Chapel of the Apparitions. It is a place not of spectacle, but of peace — where faith feels personal and deeply rooted in history.

Culture, Community, and Lakeside Beauty: Beyond its shrines, Wisconsin offers warm hospitality and charming local character. A stop at a regional winery provides an opportunity to enjoy the flavors of the area, while nearby cafés and small-town streets reflect the welcoming spirit of the Midwest.

In Milwaukee, water meets skyline along the shores of Lake Michigan. A scenic boat cruise along the lake or river offers a different perspective of the city — gentle waves, fresh air, and panoramic views replacing the quiet of the countryside with vibrant waterfront energy. The day concludes with dinner at one of Milwaukee’s iconic restaurants, where culture and cuisine blend in a relaxed, joyful atmosphere.

An Experience of Meaning and Connection: This pilgrimage through Wisconsin is not only about visiting sacred places — it is about experiencing a region shaped by faith, immigration, resilience, and community. From grand basilicas to peaceful rural shrines, from forested hills to the shores of Lake Michigan, each moment becomes part of a larger story: a journey of reflection, gratitude, and shared spiritual discovery.

Itinerary

Day 1:CHICAGO- MILWAUKEE-GREEN BAY

We will begin our pilgrimage with a morning gathering at 8:00 AM at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, parking lot, located at 181 W Dundee Rd, Wheeling, IL 60090.

We will travel through Illinois and Wisconsin. Our first stop will be the Basilica of St. Josaphat in Milwaukee—one of the most beautiful churches in the United States. Built in the Renaissance style and modeled after St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, the basilica is renowned for its stunning frescoes, impressive dome, and richly decorated interior. During our visit, we will enjoy a guided tour with a local guide.

Next, we will travel to Holy Hill – the Basilica and National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians. It is a Roman Catholic shrine dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The central element of the shrine is the Minor Basilica, and the sanctuary welcomes around 300,000 pilgrims each year.

After visiting the Basilica, we will make a short stop at a local winery for a wine tasting (available at an additional cost). This charming winery is located in a picturesque town known for its regional character, with numerous cozy cafés and small restaurants nearby.

Please note that participants are kindly asked to bring their own lunch. In the evening, we will conclude the day with a traditional Polish-style barbecue, followed by an overnight stay at a comfortable hotel in the Green Bay area.

Day 2:CHAMPION-MILWAUKEE-CHICAGO

After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for the National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion—the first and only approved Marian apparition site in the United States.

The apparitions took place in 1859, when the Blessed Mother appeared to Belgian immigrant Adele Brise. Since that time, the shrine in Champion has welcomed thousands of pilgrims seeking intercession, spiritual support, and healing.

During our visit:

  • we will learn about the history of the Marian apparitions,
  • we will participate in a private Holy Mass at the Chapel of the Apparitions.

After our time at the Shrine, we will travel to Milwaukee for a scenic boat cruise on Lake Michigan or the Milwaukee River (approximately 1.5 hours). Around 4:00 PM, we will stop for dinner at one of Milwaukee’s iconic restaurants (meal at participants’ own expense). We plan to return to the parish at approximately 7:00 PM.

The program is tentative. The order of the various points in the program may be subject to change. Holy Mass every day (if possible, in selected sanctuaries).
